Nazimabad Falls Into the Dark as K-Electric's Feeders Crashed

Powerless High Tensions of K-Electric
“There is no electricity since the last 24 hours and no one replied to our phone calls at the complaint center all over the night time,” complained a resident of North Nazimabad.
Nearly the entire city was surrounded in a black-out on Sunday night. The most severe influenced areas were Lyari, Keamari, Kharadar, Numaish Chowrangi, PECHS, Defence, Clifton and Gulistan-e-Jauhar.

“The power electricity, which had proudly declared to make 56 % of the town free from load-shedding, seems to be weak now,” said Imtiaz Hassan, a resident of Safoora Goth. On the flip side, a senior official of the electricity department told that most of the electric powered feeders in the city had tripped because of to the too much load.

Traders’ complications
The leader of Sindh Tajir Ittehad, Farid Paracha, stated that the load-shedding had seriously damaged businesses in the city. “When we make a complaint, the department blackmails us by threatening to intense connections to our shops.”

Paracha continued to say that businesses were impacted earlier by the law and other circumstances and were now being forced to bear the brunt of energy failures.

The Yellow Line BRT Project to Stay on Paper Only

This venture is part of the six Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) passages that were proposed by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (Jica) to strengthen the traffic situation in Karachi. The Karachi Mass Transit Cell (KMTC) had asked international tenders for its Yellow Line and the cell has received around 21 estimates from local and foreign companies but the documentation will continue at least till the end of 2014.

“We have completed the assessment of the bids,” said KMTC director-general Fazal Karim Khatri. “Once we choose which firm has competent for the next phase, we will give them the Request for Offer.” The capable companies will get 60 days to send their proposals for the project, which the KMTC and the transport department will scrutinise. They will then keep a meeting to make a decision which firms get the project deal.

Khatri is planning on the ground work of the venture to be started in January next year and its function to get started by the end of 2016. The project will be designed and operated through a public and private partnership program.

Green Line Project

Aside from Yellow Line, the government is also focusing on the Green and Red Lines projects at the same time. Green Line, the corridor being funded by the Sindh government, will start from Surjani Town and will end at Jama Cloth Market, passing by way of Nazimabad and Guru Mandir.
The Green Line Route Showing Nazimabad

“The Sindh government will budget for the funds for Green Line,” said an official of the transport section on the condition of anonymity. “When we have the funds out there, we can start the project without losing any time and it will be accomplished rapidly as compared to the Yellow Line due to the fact there will be no need to wait for the companies to send their proposals.”
